1st GRADE OVERVIEW
In 1st grade, your child will focus primarily on two important areas. The first is understanding addition and subtraction and using these operations to solve problems. The second is developing an understanding of place value - how numbers are grouped into ones and tens - and how place value can be used to add and subtract numbers. Students will also learn to measure and compare lengths of objects and begin to work with fractions by breaking apart different shapes.
The math curriculum is divided into skill areas called modules. Modules contain anywhere between 8 and 40 lessons split into groups of related lessons called topics.
